Simple Scones

A very traditional but very popular recipe, which is great for an afternoon snack. Use your favorite filling to make this recipe your own.

Simple Scones


  1. Sieve flour into a bowl and stir in the sugar.
  2. Rub in margarine. Stir in the sultanas and cherries.
  3. Add sufficient milk to make a soft dough.
  4. Turn onto a floured board and knead to remove any cracks.
  5. Roll out lightly to 1” in thickness. Cut into scones.
  6. Place on a floured pre-heated baking sheet and glaze if preferred.
  7. Bake in a pre-heated oven 200°C/400°F/Gas 6 for 10-15 minutes.
  8. Cool on a wire tray. Serve warm with butter
  9. Note:To make wholemeal (brown) scones, use 125g/4oz Odlums Coarse Wholemeal and 125g/4oz Odlums Self Raising Flour following the same method as above.
