A traditional Arabic dessert that's very refreshing when served after a heavy or rich meal or as a light snack

Method

  1. Peel the oranges, removing the bitter white pith and cut the oranges into segments over a bowl to catch the juice.
  2. Arrange segments in overlapping circles in a shallow serving dish.
  3. Add the rosewater or orange flower water to the orange juice in the bowl and spoon over the oranges.
  4. Cut the dates into slivers and scatter over the oranges.
  5. Sift over 2 tbsp icing sugar over oranges.
  6. Cover with cling film and chill for 1 hour.
  7. Just before serving sift over the remaining icing sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle with toasted almonds and pistachios if using.
